ANIMATED COIN IN BOTTLE
GEORGE SCHINDLER
Magicians have been magically causing coins to penetrate into bottles for over a century. It is one of the more puzzling effects that can be performed at a moment's notice in just about any situation, and apparently with ordinary objects.
For all that, the Coin In Bottle does go in and out of vogue among those looking to do the impossible close up. George Schindler's 'Animated Coin In Bottle' should put this clever bit of conjuring back in the spotlight. Especially since Schindler has added some work that makes it more visually stunning.
In Schindler's routine an empty bottle is set down on top of two half dollars. The magician lifts the bottle and the spectator's see one coin appear to visibly jump up to penetrate the bottle wall and wind up inside the bottle.
In the traditional effect the magician seems to slap a coin through the bottle bottom. This Animated Coin In Bottle variation has the distinct advantage of creating a pause before the magic takes place. The spectators are given a moment to take in the state of affairs, the empty bottle and the two coins on the table, before the penetration.
Animated Coin In Bottle is supplied with the coin gaffs needed as well as copious instructions which cover the working of the gaffs and the routine. Just about any empty bottle can be used as it is unprepared. Considering what's included this is very reasonably priced.
Schindler also includes instructions for his 'Snap Thru Coin' where the coin penetrates into a drinking glass rather than a bottle and for the classic Coin In Bottle handling which can be done with one of the coin gaffs.
Those interested in working Animated Coin In Bottle should note that the coin left on the table after the penetration can be casually examined by the spectators without revealing any secrets. And of course there are dodges for 'shaking' the coin in the bottle back out so it too can be handled by one and all.
Animated Coin In Bottle is a good place to start for those looking to acquire some useful coin gaffs as well as those who want to make an already magical effect even more magical. While the sudden vanish of the coin and the appearance of the coin inside the bottle are mechanically self-working, as with any coin in bottle routine the moves have to be learned and the presentation mastered before the spectators will be convinced you've just done the impossible.
